Did you know that paneer in English is called ‘farmers’ cheese’ or ‘curd cheese’ because it is made from curdling heated milk. And not cottage cheese.! Just a thought….
I named it grilled paneer, because it is not the conventional paneer tikka. I used the dry barbecue rub with some curd and lemon juice to marinate and grilled it. I must say it is worth the try for a twist to the taste.
What you will need is
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp chile powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 3 tsp salt
- 1 tsp thyme or celery seeds
- 3 tbsp curd
- A dash of lemon juice
Mixing the ingredients 1-8 will give you spicy barbecue dry rub. Mix it with curd and lemon juice and will give you exactly what you need for marinating a block of store bought paneer. Now, where I live, a block of paneer is generally 400 grams. And this mix is just enough for that much.
So you chop the paneer to little cubes, you can also mix up some onion and bell peppers and gently rub the paste on it. Let it rest in the fridge for about 5-6 hours for best results and grill it.!! But as a matter of fact you could just grill it right away.!!
Enjoy with some hot sauce by the side..
